If you own another domain, you can add it to your Google Workspace account. For example, you might manage multiple businesses or brands, each with their own domain. Depending on your needs, you can add a domain as a user alias domain or a secondary domain.
You can establish trust between your primary domain and other domains to allow users in different domains to share resources. Trust relationships can be configured in various ways, depending on the level of access and control you want to maintain. You can choose to establish a one-way or two-way trust, and even create an allowlist to selectively grant access to specific trusted domains.
This exercise will give you practice adding a domain alias and adding a trusted domain to your allowlist.
Part 1 of this exercise can only be completed if you own another domain that you wish to add to your Google Workspace account.
Part 2 of this exercise can only be completed if you have an additional Google Workspace domain that you want to establish trust with your primary domain.
If you do not own one or both of these, just read through the instructions for that part of the exercise to familiarize yourself with the process.
Your organization is preparing to expand their business and will be purchasing a domain that they'll use as an alias.
This means that each user in the primary domain will automatically have an alias in the new domain. In addition, the primary domain must allow external sharing with the new alias domain.
Part 1: Add an existing domain to your Google Workspace account
Step 1
If you’re not already, sign in to your domain as the Administrator at admin.google.com.
Step 2
From the main menu, navigate to Account, then select Domains and click Manage domains.
Step 3
Click Add a domain.
Step 4
Enter the domain alias of yourdomain.org.
Step 5
Under Select a domain type, ensure that Secondary domain is selected.
Step 6
Click Add domain & start verification.
Step 7
Verification steps can vary depending upon the domain name provider. In some cases, Google will redirect you to sign into your registrar and can verify your domain automatically. In other cases, you will need to follow the instructions on the screen and manually update your DNS records. These would typically be:
Select your domain name provider (registrar)
Add a Google site verification TXT record to your DNS records
Verify from the admin console.
Step 8
Click Continue to obtain your site verification TXT record. Review the steps on the screen to become familiar with the process. At this point, you would add the TXT record to the domain’s DNS records.
Step 9
Select Come back here and confirm once you have updated the code on your domain host. Then click Confirm. Leave the following page open while your DNS settings are verified. This can take a few minutes.
Adding a new domain or domain alias is a straightforward process. If you added a domain but did not verify it, you’ll see it in your domains list with the status of Inactive.
